Why Read.Write.Share. Community?
Welcome to the RWS Writers Weekend Community! We’re excited about 2023 and the thought of you joining us as we explore the writing life together. We look forward to exchanging stories with you.
We’re happy you’re here and can’t wait to hear your story!
Janis F. Kearney
When asked why we decided to create this writing community, my simple answer is that I heard from writers around the state, and throughout the south that they wanted a safe, non-judgmental gathering place where they could learn, grow and share their stories. Our mission here at the RWS Writers Weekend is to ensure a safe place for writers and artists who come with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and stories. Each of our stories matters. All of our memories and experiences have value, and when we share them with others, we are imparting a gift that we hope will positively impact others’ lives.
Iris M. Williams
In 2014 when I returned to Arkansas, I remember asking myself, "Where are my people?" I've always been an avid reader and had a passion for writing but while interning for a local publisher in North Carolina, I discovered the joy of brainstorming and associating with other writers. So when Janis invited me to collaborate with her on a conference for southern writers, I was overjoyed, to say the least. Over the past few years, the connections, experiences, and stories that have emerged from this community have been invaluable!

What You Can Expect
Allow us to become the Literary Family you can't get away from (nor will you want to)! Our team loves and welcomes new family members. We will be there when and if you need encouragement, a book-writing brainstorming session or a celebration of your literary successes along the way.
CAMARADERIE
For most writers, there is an immediate spiritual connection as you find yourselves among writers who are as passionate about the written word and story-sharing as you are.
Each conference weekend is more than just a learning experience; for some, it is also the beginning of a spiritual journey.
LITERARY EXPOSURE
Each of our presenters represents diverse literary genres and experiences, and they are excited to share them with you.
We implore you to learn from these artists’ journeys – their successes, their failures, and their lessons. New and emerging writers tend to learn more from the experience of others than from books.
NEW LITERARY BEGINNING
If you are brand-new at writing, view this experience as “the first day of the rest of your writing life.”
Join us as you take that first step among new friends, mentors, and people who believe in you, and want you to succeed.
EDUCATION
Yes, it’s a feel-good atmosphere, but most importantly, you will leave RWS Writers Weekend with an infinite knowledge about writing, resources, and skills that will result in huge returns on your investment.
READERS ROUNDTABLE
Back by popular demand! Conference participants will be allowed to read from their current or former body of work at no additional cost. (You must register. Limited slots available.)
PUBLISHING OPPORTUNITY
You are invited to submit your story to be reviewed for inclusion in our Southern Stories Anthology! The SSA is a collection of themed, short stories written by southern authors.
See the Anthology tab for more information!
